Note
Josiah Childs was with his uncle, Capt James Churchill, in the French War and, during the Revolution, was one of the Home Guard detailed for the defense of the coast. Althouth entitled to a pension, he did not obtain it. He was employed fifteen winters in trading voyages to the Carolinas.
