Stephen Pettingell of Pelham was in Shay's rebellion, and with others took the oath of allegiance April 16, 1787, and in 1789. He lived in the new part, taken by Pelham from Belchertown.

Enlisted under Samuel Dunbar June 23, 1761 served until Dec. 7; was in Capt. Abel Pierce's co., Dyke's regt., in November, 1776. Pay order given by himself dated Bristol, March 2, 1777, for pay for three months' service at Bristol.
