Nestor S. Brown, 95, died Friday at Shore Village Nursing Center after a long illness.

He was born here, son of Fred and Anna Meneke Brown, and graduated from Rockland High School in 1916.

After graduation, Mr. Brown worked for the former St. Clair and Allen Confectioners for more than 20 years. He also worked at the Snow Shipyard during World War II. He was later employed by the First National Stores and became a store manager. In 1945, he started employment with Coffins Clothing Store, and retired in 1982.

A fire policeman in Rockland for many years, he also was well known for for growing vegetables and flowers. He was a member of the Rockland Odd Fellows and was a past officer of all branches of that order.

His wife of 67 years, Addie M. Rogers Brown, died in 1989, and a son, Richard, also died previously.

Surviving are a grandson, Wayne Brown, and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Brown, both of Framingham, Mass.; two nieces and a nephew.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Carpenter Funeral Home, 306 Broadway. Burial will be in Achorn Cemetery at a later date.
