Glenis Gertrude CAOUETTE OBITUARY
CAOUETTE, Glenis Gertrude Glenis Gertrude Crocker Caouette, CPA, 88, of Old Saybrook, CT passed away on Friday, (November 2, 2012). She was born on January 3, 1924, in China, Maine, the daughter of Ivan Clinton and Rebecca Belle MacArthur Crocker. Glenis attended Erskine Academy in South China, ME. Glenis lived in Bangor, ME as a young adult where worked for WLOB Radio Station, and she owned and operated a weekly newspaper called the Penobscot Advertiser. She also worked at the Rumford Times in Maine for a time, and then as Comptroller for the Palmer Company in Portland, ME. She met and married her husband Robert Caouette in Portland, ME. They moved to Branford and then Clinton, finally settling in Old Saybrook, CT. She received her BS in Financial Accounting from the University of New Haven, and then was certified as a CPA. In 1986, she opened her own firm under the name Glenis G. Caouette, CPA, as a tax specialist. Glenis was involved in politics since she was 21 and was an active member of the Democratic Party. Glenis served in various capacities in politics. She was asked to act as Treasurer to the Selectwoman Velma Thomas-2007 Campaign. Glenis served as liaison to Congressman Sam Gedgson for CSCPA, and as liaison to Senator Chris Dodd. She was Treasurer of the Old Saybrook Democratic Town Committee and served on the Board of Finance for the Town of Old Saybrook. She was also campaign manager for Roger Goodnow, who was first selectman for three terms and is now Probate Judge. In addition, she worked for the Clinton campaign and was still doing public policy work for the Democratic National Committee. Glenis was also an active member of the Lions Club in Old Saybrook, CT. Glenis enjoyed her pets and leaves behind her dog Sasha. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Rae Klahr of Allentown, PA; two grandsons, Jay Donald Klahr, III and his wife Rawlda of Memphis, TN, and Jason Damien Klahr of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; and two great granddaughters and a great-great grandson. She was predeceased by her brothers, Forrest E., Raymond A., Lloyd W., Ruel I., Harold Crocker, Raymond A. Crocker of New Hampshire, and Lloyd Crocker of Pennsylvania. Glenis also has several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call at the Swan Funeral Home, 80 E.
