Otis says this marriage happened, but in the book he says that Mercy Shove married Josiah according to records. He says John was intended because there was no Josiah Howland. He further says that Mary and Hannah were Mercy's children.

White does not mention this marriage at all, and shows proof that Mercy married Josiah.
